Storylust Is Back… Mostly 😂📚
Ok, so we’ll (I’ll) be a bit honest and state that Storylust was kinda forgotten and left to languish on the wayside.
But we’re back! Mostly…cuz…well… gestures wildly at everything 😂
Ok, so that’s covered. Now to scream and cheer about my new favorite standalone romantasy.
YES! OMG. FINALLY. A STANDALONE ROMANTASY! 🥳🎉
I don’t have to read a million books to get the whole story!
During a random day of doom scrolling social media, I stumbled across a video about standalone romantasy and saw The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson and immediately had to pick it up.
I mean…vampires, enemies-to-lovers, magic…
Hell yes.
And it was on Kindle Unlimited?
Even more yes.
This was one of those rare books where I bought the Kindle version before I even finished the book. And it was $0.99 on Kindle, so…WIN. 😂
But more than that, I pre-ordered the hardcover release from the local romance bookstore. Seriously, support local! ❤️📚
And then I seriously contemplated paying out the nose to order the UK hardcover because, of course, I wanted the other cover AND the different sprayed edges.
Instead, I ended up pre-ordering the special edition version from Lit Haven, and seriously…I’m obsessed.
I NEVER order special-edition-type things, so this is a first for me!
Apparently The Poison Daughter is the book that broke me. 😂
I’ve also just realized that I’ve spent most of this post so far NOT talking about the actual story.
But at the same time…I don’t want to give too much away.
Because it’s an amazing story that I want people to go and read!
Also…I read this like three months ago and have read approximately eleventy billion books since, so I don’t remember everything beyond how much I absolutely loved it. 😂
You’ve got an amazing, strong, self-aware FMC in Harlow and then an MMC who wants to save his people (among other things that I don’t want to give away).
And then there’s the unexpected twist…
Which I obviously won’t spoil because you need to experience that yourself. 👀
Just be warned, there are elements that can be triggering for people (abuse, animalistic tendencies, etc.), so I would definitely classify this more as a dark romantasy than anything else.
Sheila Masterson does a wonderful job telling their story and throwing in an unexpected twist…
AND IN A SINGLE BOOK.
Seriously. A complete romantasy story. In ONE BOOK. We can have nice things! 😂🙌
So if you like vampires, enemies-to-lovers, magic, a strong FMC, a little darkness, and—most importantly—a romantasy that doesn’t require you to immediately commit to another five books…
Go read The Poison Daughter. 🖤📚
And if you’ve already read it, please come tell me what you thought because I clearly need someone to talk about this with. 😂
