Comfort, Chaos, and a Little Psychic Intrusion

Ok, so sometimes I have to take a break from the smutty chaos and remind myself that there are still books where people fall in love without three reverse harems, a cursed dick, or a knife kink. Shocking, I know.

When I need that palate cleanser, I go straight to my comfort reads — and for me, that means Nora Roberts. The queen of contemporary-with-a-dash-of-supernatural. This time, I picked up her recent release, Mind Games.

Now, full transparency: I read this on vacation… over a month ago… so we’re going purely off vibes and fuzzy memories here. Let’s see what my tequila-soaked brain retained, shall we? 🍹

We’ve got our FMC, Thea, who — plot twist — accidentally jumps into the mind of her parents’ killer. Yeah. YIKES. But, silver lining, that’s how she helps the cops catch him. We follow her through growing up, heading off to college, and becoming a badass video game developer (finally, a heroine who doesn’t fit a boring trope — thank you, Nora 🙌).

As she gets older, Thea uses her mind-hopping powers to occasionally save other victims, which is great… until things get creepy. Because guess what? The killer learns to jump into her mind too. 😬 Nothing says “romantic suspense” like an unwanted psychic houseguest!

Enter Tyler — former boy band member, single dad, skeptic, and all-around cinnamon roll with trust issues. They meet, sparks fly, chaos ensues. Of course, things go sideways when she uses her powers to find his kid’s missing toy and he’s like, “wtf, stalker much?” Cue heartbreak, misunderstandings, and some family meddling that eventually brings them back together.

And, look. This is a Nora Roberts book. We all know how it ends: the bad guy gets wrecked, the FMC saves the day, and everyone rides off into a cozy, well-earned happily ever after.

It’s not spicy, but it’s warm, familiar, and exactly what I needed after too many morally gray men and “oops we accidentally started a war during foreplay” moments. Sometimes you just need a comforting story, a little psychic weirdness, and the reassurance that love (and justice) still win. ❤️
